On the Edge of their Seats

I was commissioned to design the cover of an educational book titled On the Edge of Their Seats that the authors were self-publishing.

I composed the typography and hand-illustrated the art, delivering a unique cover at the project end.

The book is now available for purchase on Amazon and has 20 five-star reviews.

Growth Points

Concepts & Ideation

After communicating with the client and receiving general guidelines, I referenced other book cover designs, exploring a wide range of concepts.

I made several thumbnail sketches for quick ideation, trying out illustrative, typographic, and photo-centric designs, focusing on the book themes of engaging, inspiring, and transforming students.

The Drafts

From the sketches, the client chose the one-line illustrative cover.

Following the client’s suggestions, I refined the sketch into a unique piece of art, and created many drafts with different fonts, colors and compositions for the client to review.

The final spread

After the front cover was finished, I designed the spine and back cover as well.

The final product featured my unique art and a compelling typographic layout on the front, and a simple quote, summary, author bio, and space for a barcode on the back.
